Spanish Moss

Spanish Moss hanging from the trees is a trademark of the South and Hilton Head is no exception. I found this tree near the Baynard Ruins in Sea Pines. The Baynard Ruins are the remains of an old plantation on the island that has all but fallen to the ground. The sun breaking through the surrounding vegetation backlighting the moss really adds an ethereal tone to the image, in my opinion. Maybe Baynard's ghost lives in these trees!
