Stormy Sunrise on Buttermilks
Eastern Sierra, CA
When I headed out on this morning in Bishop, California, I was rather disappointed because there had been a spring storm hovering over the area most of the night and the morning didn't at first seem to be offering any relief. But, I hopped in the car and drove out to an area near the Owens River I had passed by the day before and set up to shoot anyway. As I got closer to my destination, the clouds began to break and a little bit of sun broke through. I waited (still shooting, of course) until the sun broke through just enough and at just the right time to highlight the Buttermilks in front of Mt Tom, giving this incredible layering of light in this image.
