Grand Canyon, Hermits Rest
Grand Canyon NP, AZ
Hermits Rest is one of the harder places to get to in Grand Canyon National Park, but still, not all that difficult. From March until around November, I think, you have to take a 45-60 minute shuttle ride from the South Village area. I got early one morning and caught the shuttle around 5AM and was at Hermits Rest, in the blizzard-like snow storm that hit early that morning, before sunrise. I hiked back and forth along the road that leads up to Hermits Rest looking for the best location to set up. Just about everywhere I stopped my view of the canyon was obstructed by a tree or the storm was too heavy to shoot through. So, I packed up my gear and headed back up to the pick-up location and on my way back, the storm moved farther out over the canyon and opened up a nice hole in the clouds that the sun then broke through. So, I quickly set my camera back up and started shooting. Just as I did, the clouds started to descend back down into the canyon, but I was able to get off a few frames before the sun went completely back behind the clouds and disappeared.
