Laurel Falls, Great Smoky Mountains, TN

On this trip to the Smokys, the weather was not very cooperative. I spent 4 days there in nothing but overcast skies and rain. I was just about to hang it up and head for home when I decided to make the short, three mile, round-trip hike up to Laurel Falls. I debated for several minutes whether it would be worth it, but decided to go anyway. It was early yet... my car was the only one in the parking area when I set out so I knew I would likely have it all to myself for a while. I found a very peaceful scene when I arrived at the falls so I sat for a moment to soak it in, then got out my camera. Whenever shooting waterfalls, I always try to come in tight for a few frames... you really get the sense of motion and all the details in the rocks. After shooting for about 45 minutes, I headed back down the slippery slope and passed three other photographers on their way up. Just goes to show, if there's any question whether or not to go, there's no question... go! If you don't, somebody else will.
